The Hunt

The hunt spans 7 full days in the rainforest. Hunting can occur around the clock, but experience shows the best times are from approximately 9 PM to 2 AM. After a few hours of sleep in the camp, the hunt resumes from around 4 AM to 9/10 AM. A light meal is served mid-morning, followed by relaxation. The main meal is served mid-afternoon before the evening hunt.

Hunting is always on foot, combining "walk and stalk" and calling hunts, where local guides attempt to lure duikers into shooting range. Hunting is conducted with shotguns provided by our partner, as bringing personal firearms is not permitted.

Accommodation

During the hunt, you'll stay in single-person tents set up under a large tarpaulin. The tents are equipped with mattresses and also serve as mosquito nets. Two meals are served daily—one after the morning hunt and one before the evening hunt—with fresh drinking water always available.

Hotel and meals before and after the hunt are at your own expense. Note that toilet and bathing facilities are very primitive, consisting of a simple hole in the ground as a toilet and a "bucket shower" for bathing.

Transport and Logistics

Travel to Liberia is via Brussels Airlines from Copenhagen through Brussels to Monrovia. Upon arrival in Monrovia, our local partner will meet you at the airport. From there, you'll drive through Monrovia to a local hotel, where you'll stay overnight after a 2-3 hour drive.

After a good night's sleep and breakfast, the journey continues to the base camp in the rainforest, taking approximately 6 hours depending on traffic conditions. Upon arrival, you'll repack your luggage and don your hunting gear. From there, a 2-hour hike awaits to the actual hunting camp (tent). Once the base camp is left, the hunt begins.

The return journey starts with a 7-8 hour drive back to Monrovia, where you'll stay overnight at a better hotel in the city center. Our partner will ensure that the necessary documents are obtained so that trophies and skins can be brought home in your luggage. A packing list and travel tips will be sent after booking. References from hunters who have had successful hunts for various duiker species in Liberia can also be provided.
