Scientific Name: Tapirus pinchaque

Distribution: A few areas in the Andes on the border between Columbia and Venezuela.
Habitat: loss is mainly due to cattle herds. Habitat: Above 2.500 m. Prefers dense bushy areas, close to the snow-line, in typical mountain forests.
Description: Characteristic tapir weighing up to 250 kg with a body length of around 2 meters. General colour dark brown and rather hairy (hence its local name "wool-tapir"), characteristic whitish lips. Very little known.
Hunting method: Totally protected. The world-population is estimated to around 2.000 individuals, including those kept in zoo's.
