Chilean Huemul

Scientific Name: Hippocamelus indtilulcus

Subspecies: None.

Distribution: The provinces of Aysen and Magallanes (Chile), Rio Negro, Chubut and Santa Cruz (Argentina).

Habitat: High alpine pastures.

Description: Medium sized deer weighing around 70 kg. It measures up to 90 cm over the shoulder and reaches a total body length of 1,70 m, without tail. General colour brown, rump patch buff to white, often darker higher up. The antlers are forked.

Hunting method: In former times with dogs. Totally protected in area of distribution.
