Karamoja

Karamoja is located in northeastern Uganda and is one of the country’s most raw and untouched hunting areas. The region stretches across vast landscapes, with concessions covering more than 450,000 hectares from Kidepo Valley National Park down through central Karamoja, spanning six districts (Karenga, Kitgum, Agago, Kaabong, Kotido and Abim).

The terrain is wild, remote, and largely without infrastructure. There are very few roads, no asphalt, and transport is carried out on rough gravel tracks, emphasizing the area’s authentic “outback” character.

Hunting is primarily conducted as spot-and-stalk, but it is not overly physically demanding. The landscape offers many opportunities to spot game from a distance before planning and executing the final stalk.

Karamoja is particularly renowned for its strong buffalo population, and in the northern parts there are also good numbers of Uganda Defassa Waterbuck, Jackson’s Hartebeest, Sudan Oribi, Eastern Bohor Reedbuck, Chandler’s Mountain Reedbuck, Gunther’s Dik-dik, Sudan Maneless Zebra and Warthog. In addition, both Lesser and Greater Kudu are increasingly being seen in the area.

The hunting season in Karamoja runs primarily from January to September and offers a true, classic East African hunting experience far off the beaten track.
