Hunting Area - Summer hunt in Greenland

The hunting district is situated in one of Greenland’s most spectacular and remote areas, near a large lake and just 35 km from Kangerlussuaq in West Greenland, close to the Inland Ice. The region offers a unique Arctic wilderness experience, with stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife.

Søndre Strømfjord or as it is called in Greenlandic - Kangerlussuaq - is transected by the Arctic circle, which means in summer it never really gets dark, while in mid-winter there is nearly no light apart  from moonlight and the fantastic northern lights. During August-September, when the hunt takes place, there is more than 12 hours daylight per day, as the day quickly get longer at these latitudes.

Musk Ox Hunting
Hunting for musk oxen in this district is primarily done on foot, with stalking as the main method. Hunters are typically grouped and set out from camp to search for the animals. Prior to the final approach, it is agreed whether the last stage of the hunt will be carried out 1:1 or if others may follow from a distance, always taking the hunter’s preferences into account. Musk oxen in the area are among the largest in the world, descended from animals introduced from East Greenland in 1963, and provide excellent trophy potential.

Reindeer Hunting
Reindeer hunting in Greenland is open from August through October. In August and early September, the animals are still in velvet and often at higher elevations, requiring long walks and careful stalking. As the season progresses, the reindeer descend to lower terrain, making them more accessible. This period combines optimal hunting conditions with spectacular Arctic scenery and over 12 hours of daylight per day, allowing for longer hunting excursions.

The terrain is generally easy to traverse, but hunters should be prepared for long walks and some variation in elevation. Hunting is mostly on foot, sometimes supplemented by small boats, and always conducted with respect for the local wildlife and environment.
