Scientific Name: Melursus ursinus

Distribution: Southern Nepal and Assam, isolated regions on the southern tip of India.
Habitat: Lowlands, evergreen, moist and dry deciduous forest with rocky outcrops.
Description: Medium sized bear weighing up to 115 kg and measuring up to 90 cm over the shoulder. It reaches a total body length of 2,0 m without tail (12 cm). General colour black with white patches on the chest and a white nose. Manelike hairs on the shoulders and neck.
Hunting method: Stalking, to a bait, with dogs.
