Scientific Name: Chrysocyon brachyurus

Distribution: From central Brazil southwards to eastern Bolivia, Paraguay, northern Argentina and Uruguay.
Habitat: Forests and scrub. (Strong decline in numbers due to habitat loss).
Description: Slender, longhaired wolf weighing around 30 kg and measuring up to 75 cm over the shoulder, reaching a total body length without tail of 1,30 m. General colour rufous brown with black underparts and black neck.
Hunting method: In former times with dogs, today the Maned Wolf is totally protected.
