Scientific Name: Felis margarita
Subspecies/Distribution: 1. Felis m. margarita: Arabian Peninsula (and northern Africa). 2. Felis m. thinobis: Southern Russia, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Habitat: Very dry areas: Deserts with sand-dunes and rocky areas.
Description: Smallish cat weighing up to 5 kg, and measuring up to 26 cm over the shoulder. It reaches a total body length of 60 cm, without tail (35 cm). General colour fawn or dark-yellow sandy colour, underparts buff to white. Black markings on upper half, in some areas very distinct, in other regions pale and washed out.
