Distribution: All of Africa south of Sahara excepting the West African rainforest.
Habitat: Open savannas, from lightly bushed country to forests, particularly near marshy places or rivers. Also on high mountain moorlands.
Description: A rather slenderly built cat with a proportionately small head, large oval upstanding ears, elongated legs and a short tail ringed with black. coat yellowish buff, heavily marked with black spots, bands and stripes. It weighs around 18 - 20 kg and has a shoulder height of 50 - 60 cm.
Hunting method: Is often taken in connection with leopard hunting.
