Scientific name: Plectropterus gambensis
Distribution: Today it is common in west, east and southern Africa.
Habitat: This species is often found in open grasslands close to lakes, rives and marshes. It is also seen on farmlands, as it often feeds on crop plants.
Description: It is a large black goose with white spots, and it has large sharp spurs on its wings. It is the largest hunt able wildfowl in South Africa with a weight of up to 10kg and a wingspan of 1.8m. It is a very well flying bird that can be difficult to bring down.
